Eficácia de materiais audiovisuais sobre a exploração animal para motivar mudanças no consumo alimentar de alunos mexicanos

Resumo

Materiais audiovisuais podem ser eficazes para promover dietas vegetarianas e veganas. No entanto, não entendemos bem por que sua eficácia é devida. Neste estudo, comparamos a eficácia de cinco vídeos sobre a explotação animal versus um grupo de conversa e controle para motivar mudanças no consumo de alimentos. Pesquisamos estudantes de 25 grupos em três escolas de ensino médio (15-18 anos) na Cidade do México durante duas visitas (n=659 e n=551, respectivamente). Avaliamos suas crenças e atitudes em relação a outros animais, seu consumo de alimentos de origem animal antes e após os tratamentos e sua disposição em reduzir ou eliminar o consumo de tais alimentos. Todos os tratamentos motivaram uma disposição para reduzir ou eliminar o consumo de produtos de origem animal, mas os dois vídeos longos com violência explícita foram os tratamentos mais eficazes. Encontramos diferenças significativas de acordo com gênero e consumo inicial. Nosso estudo é relevante para o ativismo vegano/vegetariano.
