Eficacia de materiales audiovisuales sobre explotación animal para motivar cambios en el consumo alimentario de estudiantes mexicanos

Resumen

Los materiales audiovisuales pueden ser eficaces para promover las dietas vegetarianas y veganas. Sin embargo, no comprendemos bien a qué se debe su eficacia. En este estudio comparamos la eficacia de cinco videos sobre explotación animal versus una plática y un control para motivar cambios en el consumo alimentario. Encuestamos a estudiantes de 25 grupos en tres escuelas preparatorias (15-18 años) en Ciudad de México durante dos visitas (n=659 y n=551, respectivamente). Evaluamos sus creencias y actitudes hacia los demás animales, su consumo de alimentos de origen animal antes y después de los tratamientos, y su disposición a disminuir o eliminar el consumo de dichos alimentos. Todos los tratamientos motivaron la disposición a disminuir o eliminar el consumo de productos animales, pero los videos largos con violencia explícita fueron los tratamientos más eficaces. Encontramos diferencias significativas según género y consumo inicial. Nuestro estudio es relevante para el activismo vegano/vegetariano.
