Resumo

Em seu curso Os Anormais, Michel Foucault argumenta que o indivíduo anormal descende da figura do monstro e que há dois tipos de monstros: um sexual e outro alimentício. Enquanto Foucault traça a genealogia do monstro sexual chegando até o indivíduo sexualmente anormal, o monstro alimentício cai no esquecimento. Este artigo toma a obra de Foucault sobre a normalização com a finalidade de considerar a genealogia desse outro monstruoso herdeiro, o indivíduo alimentício anormal, e estende-la até o século XXI. Em Particular, esse trabalho examina a patologização do vegetarianismo e do veganismo nos escritos de Margaret Atwood e a invenção de uma nova enfermidade mental, a ortorexia nervosa.
