Abstract

Moving away from the characteristic anthropocentrism of "sustainable ecology", different environmental ethical proposals extended their limits beyond the human in the attribution of moral consideration. Most of its followers do not question the existence of domesticated animals for various uses and, when it comes to resolving conflicts of interest, they return to anthropocentrism, or favor the species, including plants, or the ecosystem, over the interests of conscious individuals , opening a gap between environmental and animal ethics. In this essay I contextualized ecological problems from a socio-political point of view to then examine biocentrism, focusing especially on the view of Paul W. Taylor. I reviewed his limits and drawbacks, and extracted in turn some contributions to reflect on the mechanism of domination / appropriation as the core generator of violence suffered by nonhumans.
