barreras al vegetarianismo y veganismo en el ámbito doméstico

Resumen

¿Qué factores del ámbito doméstico obstaculizan la promoción y el mantenimiento exitosos de las dietas vegetarianas y veganas? En este artículo buscamos explorar los obstáculos domésticos a la conversión a las dietas vegetariana y vegana para complementar la investigación sociológica existente en cuanto al vegetarianismo, veganismo y la defensa de animales. Para ello, hemos llevado a cabo una revisión de bibliografía sociológica sobre alimentos y vida doméstica, incluyendo bibliografía de la sociología de la familia, sociología de género, sociología de la comida y otras áreas. Los obstáculos que encontramos incluyen reacciones familiares al cambio de la dieta, el papel de la madre en proveer alimentos a los hijos, la subordinación de las preferencias alimentarias de la mujer, el suministro de alimentos por parte de la mujer como forma de poder, la dinámica en la elección de comida entre parejas, el papel de la carne en la jerarquía doméstica y la raza y clase social.

  • Kathryn Asher

    Doctoranda en el Departamento de Sociología en la Universidad de New Brunswick. Estudia la sociología de la alimentación, movimientos sociales y la efectividad de la defensa al veganismo y al vegetarianismo. Se centra en modelar una ruta libre hacia una sociedad que no dependa del consumo de carne. Kathryn también es directora de investigación de Faunalytics.

  • Elizabeth Cherry

    Profesora adjunta de sociología en la Manhattanville College, donde imparte cursos de sociología medioambiental, sociología de la alimentación, animales y sociedad y movimientos sociales medioambientales. Su investigación se centra en el veganismo y en el activismo en favor de los derechos de los animales en Francia y en Estados Unidos.

  • Carmen María Carpena Ortega

    Estudió el Grado en Traducción y Mediación Interlingüística en la Universitat de València y actualmente se especializa en el Máster en Traducción Audiovisual del Instituto Superior de Estudios Lingüísticos y Traducción. Mientras tanto, es traductora de páginas web y se embarca en proyectos de traducción que le parecen interesantes por la labor social que llevan a cabo, como es el caso de la Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios Críticos Animales.
