Más allá de la biopolítica: los estudios animales, las granjas industriales y el advenimiento de la vida muriente

Este artículo pretende dos cosas: articular la función de la biopolítica como correlato necesario del excepcionalismo humano, y argumentar a favor de la granja industrial como un inverso suplementario de la lógica biopolítica. El excepcionalismo humano se basa fundamentalmente en el deseo de crear vidas protegidas, y vidas que puedan ser, o incluso necesiten ser, exterminadas. En otras palabras, el excepcionalismo humano es la definición misma de la biopolítica. Sin embargo, la teoría biopolítica se desarrolló principalmente en torno a la reflexión sobre los genocidios humanos, en particular el nazi. A pesar de los intentos de pensar las analogías entre Auschwitz y una granja industrial, tales analogías ignoran importantes especificidades históricas y teóricas. Aunque la biopolítica es una comprensión teórica importante, incluso necesaria, de las relaciones de los seres humanos con otros animales, no es suficiente para pensar las realidades de las granjas industriales. Necesitamos un aparato conceptual que no se base en la capacidad de pensar los horrores del genocidio humano, sino en la capacidad de pensar los horrores de la granja industrial. Así, propongo que los animales de las granjas industriales existen en la ontología política de la vida muriente, es decir, seres que deberían estar vivos, pero que de alguna manera ya están muertos. Este aparato conceptual no pretende oponerse al pensamiento de lo biopolítico, sino complementarlo, permitirnos pensar con y más allá de lo biopolítico.
