Abstract

In this interview, Paula Casal explains the conditional character of tradition and the reasons why bullfights do not meet the necessary conditions that make the repetition of a practice valuable in itself. She also considers the arguments regarding the harms inflicted on the bullfighter’s lifeproject, and the need of bullfighting for the breeding of fighting bulls. In addition, she also discusses the moral and legal status of bulls and other animals, legal and philosophical personhood, and the role of ethics in the interpretation of the law, as well as matters involving legal strategies for the defense of animals.
