Control ético de población y convivencia responsable con especies liminales. El desafío de las palomas urbanas para el bienestar animal

Resumen

En este trabajo se presenta un meta-análisis bibliográfico de publicaciones científicas sobre distintos métodos de control de población de palomas urbanas (descendientes de la Columba livia) y sus resultados. Se analizaron 64 publicaciones correspondientes al período 1964-2020. Las publicaciones relevadas son evaluadas considerando su eficacia pero, además, abriendo cuestionamientos en relación con distintos parámetros del bienestar animal y la ética animal. Debido a la ineficacia de los métodos probados y relevados y de la responsabilidad humana por la presencia urbana de las palomas, se concluye proponiendo utilizar la categoría de animal liminal (Donaldson y Kymlicka, 2018) y la convivencia pacífica con la especie. El trabajo se divide en tres capítulos. El primero despliega el marco teórico y la historia de la especie y su rechazo actual. El segundo analiza las publicaciones sobre control poblacional y el último elabora una propuesta de convivencia pacífica a la luz del especial estatus de esta especie y de nuestra responsabilidad respecto de ella.
